The lady on the left of the photograph is Janet Hawkins neé Robertson, the wife of Albert Edwin Hawkins. The child Janet is holding is almost certainly her daughter Eva Theresa Hawkins, born 1884, and the child in the frock is likely to be her eldest daughter, Elizabeth Janet Hawkins, born about 1878.

Janet and family were living in Kensington at the time, and from their dress are probably visiting Little Coxwell.

The original photograph was mounted in a card frame marked "J.J.Hunt ／ The Studio ／ Calne and Malmesbury". It is believed to have been taken about 1886.
