MARRIAGE
place: Faringdon, Berks
date: 15 July 1838
There are errors in the Faringdon PR marriage entry.
15 Jul 1838 marr. of William Hawkins, 21, bat, lab, of LC, s. James Hawkins, lab, to Mary Chandler, 20, spin, lab,
of Great Faringdon, d. John Jackson, lab. [signed] William Hawkins,
Mary X Jackson. Witnesses: William Hawkins X, Sarah X Jackson.
The surname 'Chandler' has been copied from the previous record, and should have been 'Jackson' as the
remainder of the text makes clear.
The signature of the groom William Hawkins is identical to the signature of the first witness.
An 'X' has been added after the witness signature. Either William inadvertently wrote his
own name instead of that of the witness, or (less likely) the witness was also named William Hawkins.
