Bampton, Buckland, Shifford, & Cote
JAMES SEARY & HESTER (ESTHER) JAMES
INTRODUCTION
Some of the children of this marriage were baptized in Anglican Churches at Bampton, Buckland, and Shifford.
The parents converted to the Baptist faith in 1820 and the birth dates of their subsequent children were recorded at Coate Baptist Chapel.
Coate is probably modern Cote, which is only two miles east of Bampton.
There is also a record of the baptism of a further James SEARY baptized at Coate Baptist Chapel as an adult in 1835.
This is probably the eldest son of James and Esther, James SEARY (1809).

Enos (Eneas) appears to have been baptized first in the Church of England in 1844 at about age 11.
He was then rebaptized at the Coate Baptist Chapel in 1858. He was recorded in the Coate Baptist Register as
"Dismissed to Woodstock 1878" which presumably means he had left Coate and joined the Baptist Chapel at Woodstock.
The record of his burial in the Combe Parish Register states "reputed to be a Baptist".
For the baptism at Faringdon see also William and Esther SEARY.
Enos was recorded lodging with James and Rachel SOLLIS at Brize Norton in 1851.
