born: about 1602 [from marriage license]

The will of Ralph ILES dated 29 January 1699 identifies him as a yeoman and names his children, their husbands, and his then wife, Susannah.

WIFE (1)

Ann GALE (recorded as CALE) about 1602-? [P11]

father: William GALE (recorded as CALE) 15?? [P12]
mother:
born: about 1602 (from marriage license)
baptized:
died:
buried:

Ann Cale's identity is known from a transcription of her marriage license. The name is probably incorrectly transcribed - an early G can easily be mistaken for a C. No trace of CALE families have been found but there were numerous GALE families at Christian Malford where Ann came from.

MARRIAGE (1)

place: Salisbury diocese
date: 1622

A Marriage Licence was issued by the Salisbury diocese dated 29 July 1622:

Ralphe Isles of Lydiard Millicent aged 20 or thereabouts, and Ann Cale of Christian Malford aged 20 or thereabouts natural and lawful daughter of William Cale may lawfully marry together.

Lydiard Millicent is just west of Swindon in Wiltshire about 15 miles from Little Coxwell, and Christian Malford is further west near Chippenham.

CHILDREN (1)

Frances ILES 1622-

baptized: 13 February 1622 at Little Coxwell [as Frances EILES - LC PRs]

Frances is a male name during this period. It is possible that he had died before 1699 when Ralph Iles made his will because the second son, Edward, inherits the bulk of the estate.

A son Ffrances received a bequest in the will but this may be a later son, probably of the second wife Susannah. See below.

Edward ILES 1626-

baptized: 10 June 1626 at Little Coxwell [as Edward EILES - LC PRs]

Ann ILES 1628-1696 (also known as Anne) [P10]

baptized: 18 May 1628 at Little Coxwell [as Ann ILLES d Ralfe & Ann - LC PRs]

Joane ILES 1630-

baptized: 24 April 1630 at Little Coxwell [d Ralfe & Anne - LC PRs]

It is possible she had died when Ralph ILES made his will. She is not specifically mentioned but he left a bequest to his son-in-law John MORCOCK who may have been her husband.

Rosse ILES (also known as Roase, i.e. modern Rose) 1634-1720

baptized: 30 August 1634 at Little Coxwell [d Ralfe & Anins - LC PRs]

He name is given as Roase HAZLES in the will of Ralph ILES. She is probably the wife of Edward HAZEL.

WIFE (2)

This second wife is known from the record of Ralph Iles will dated 1699. See above.

Ffrances ILES

Frances is a male name during this period.

This son is speculative as a baptismal record has not been found. However a son Ffrances received a bequest in the will of Ralph ILES. The bulk of the estate went to son Edward (b. 1626) so it is likely that the eldest son Frances (b. 1622) was deceased.
