HUSBAND
Thomas HAWKINS 1563-1621
Thomas was born in Stanford-in-the-Vale, but at some time moved to Little Coxwell.
Both of his wives were born in Stanford-in-the-Vale.
His connection to Little Coxwell was probably via his father, William.
Both his father and his brother, Michell, were appointed overseers in the will of Michaell
Hallidaye of Little Coxwell dated 13 November 1600.
There is also another Hawkins-Halliday connection. The inventory for Thomas Jaye of Little Coxwell who died
27 September 1621 was appraised by William Halliday (the son of Michaell Hallidaye) and Thomas Hawkins [BRO Ref D/A3/3103].
In 1607 Thomas married
Cecilie GREENWAYE.
They were both aged about 44.
Cecilie died at Little Coxwell the same year. Speculatively, this may have been during childbirth or due to the plague.
London had been hit badly only a few years before.
In 1619 Thomas married his second wife,
Margaret FARM.
She bore him a son, but Thomas died in 1621 when his son was about 1 year old.
Again this may have been due to the plague. It never really left England, and ravaged London again in 1625.
Certainly Thomas' illness came on quickly. In late September or early October 1921 he was an appraiser
of the inventory of Thomas Jaye (as mentioned above), which would have taken place less than 5 months
before his burial on 28 February 1621 (28 February 1622 Gregorian). Thomas' will is dated 23 February 1621.
Presumably Margaret, his widow, continued to live in Little Coxwell because in 1626 she married
Thomas RENOWLLS (REYNOLDS) of Faringdon. She probably died before 1637 because in that year
it is likely the same Thomas RENOWLLS married
Florence HALLYDAYE. (See link at the top of this page.)
