Family History 1470-1499
William Hawkines of Stanford-in-the-Vale
Stanford-in-the-Vale
NOTE ON NAMES
There are many variants of the name Hawkins in the pre-modern period,
some of which are lost because the spelling has been modernised in the transcriptions that have come down to us.
Also in many cases the names have been latinised.
For the generations born before 1560 I have standardised on HAWKINES, which seems to be the most common spelling.
Thereafter names are standardised as HAWKINS. Variants are noted where known.
THE PARENTS OF JOHN & RICHARD HAWKINES
It is known that the John HAWKINES born around 1500 had a brother named Richard from his will dated 1557 which is at the Bodleian Library.
A possible candidate for their father is the
William HAWKINES born at Stanford-in-the-Vale in about 1470.
